Sell more
Transom has tools that raise your average order value: quantity breaks, bundles, bought together, cart goals, a cart upsell, and more. This page explains what each tool does, which setting controls it, and what you must set up in Shopify for it to be honest.
One rule to know first
Transom displays discounts. It never applies them.
Wherever the theme mentions a saving, such as "Save 10%", a bundle price, or a free shipping reward, the actual discount must come from Shopify: an automatic discount or a shipping rate that you create. The theme cannot change what a customer pays at checkout.
If the message and the discount do not match, shoppers see one price on your product page and another at checkout. That causes abandoned carts, refund requests, and in some countries legal trouble for misleading pricing. After you set up any of the tools below, always test with a real cart.
| Tool | Where the saving comes from |
|---|---|
| Quantity breaks | One automatic discount per tier. |
| Bundle builder | An automatic discount you create. |
| Frequently bought together | An automatic discount, if you mention savings. |
| Cart goals | Automatic discounts and shipping rates. |
| Countdown | Your own real sale. The timer only displays the end date. |
Quantity breaks
Quantity breaks show tiers such as "Buy 1", "Buy 2, save 10%", and "Buy 4, save 15%". Shoppers pick a tier and the quantity field updates to match.
How it works
- A shopper opens a product page that has a Quantity breaks block.
- They see each tier as an option, with its total price. A tier with a discount shows the discounted total with the full price crossed out.
- Selecting a tier sets the product's quantity. The first tier is selected by default.
- At checkout, your automatic discount applies if the quantity qualifies.
Where the tiers come from
There are two sources, and the product's metafield wins:
- The block. In the Product information section, select the Quantity breaks block. Fill in up to four tiers. Each tier has:
- Quantity: The number of units. A tier is shown only if it has a quantity above zero and a label.
- Label: The text shoppers see, for example "Save 10%".
- Discount: A percent from 0 to 90. The discount only changes the displayed total. Create a matching automatic discount for it to apply at checkout.
- Badge: An optional small tag, such as "Best value".
- Extra line: An optional short line under the price in the cards layout, such as "Free shipping". Only promise what your store really gives.
- Savings note: Text below the tiers.
- The product metafield `transom.tiers`. If a product has this field, it replaces the block's tiers for that product. See transom.tiers.
The displayed total is: variant price x quantity x (100 minus the discount percent) / 100. It follows the selected variant. If you leave Discount at 0, the tier shows the plain total.
The Cards layout shows tiers side by side with the saving as a percent, the price per item and the extra line. List shows one row per tier.
Set up a matching discount in Shopify
Each tier with a discount needs its own automatic discount. Here is the full process for a tier "Buy 2, save 10%":
- In your Shopify admin, go to Discounts and select Create discount.
- Choose Amount off products.
- Under Method, choose Automatic discount.
- Enter a Title that customers will see, such as "Buy 2 save 10%".
- Under Value, choose Percentage and enter
10. This must match the tier's Discount setting exactly. - Under Applies to, choose Specific products and select the product (or a collection, if the same tier applies to many products).
- Under Minimum purchase requirements, choose Minimum quantity of items and enter
2. This must match the tier's Quantity. - Choose how this discount combines with others under Combinations.
- Set the Active dates. Leave the end date empty for an ongoing offer.
- Select Save discount.
Repeat for each tier. For a "Buy 4, save 15%" tier, create a second discount with value 15 and minimum quantity 4.
Test it
- Open the product page on your live or preview store.
- Select each tier in turn and add to cart.
- In the cart, check that the discount appears and that the cart total matches the total in the tier.
- Try going to checkout to confirm.
If the totals do not match, see Why does my discount not apply?.
Rules of thumb
- Keep the Discount percent, the tier label, and the Shopify discount in agreement. The label is free text and is not checked.
- Two tiers on the same product can both qualify when the quantity is high (for example 4 qualifies for both the 2+ and 4+ tiers). Test checkout at each quantity to confirm the shopper gets the discount you intend. If it does not, review the Combinations settings and the discount rules.
- Use the same percent in the tier and in the Shopify discount, and compare the cart total with the tier total when you test.
- The theme ships with a sample set of tiers in some templates, including "Save 10%" and "Save 15%" labels. Edit or remove those before you launch if you have not created matching discounts.
Bundle builder
The Bundle builder lets shoppers choose a set number of products from a collection, such as "Pick any 3", and add them to the cart together.
How it works
- Add the Bundle builder section to a page or product template.
- Set Collection to the collection that holds the products to choose from.
- Set Products in a bundle (2 to 6), the exact number a shopper must pick.
- Set Maximum products to show (3 to 12) to limit how many appear.
Shoppers tap Add to bundle on each product. Slots fill up as they choose. When the bundle is full, the other products are disabled until one is removed. The Add bundle to cart button is on only when the exact number is chosen. The total shown is the real sum of the prices. Sold-out products are left out. If a product has variants, shoppers choose the variant first.
Setting a bundle price
The bundle builder shows the sum of the chosen items. To give a bundle price, create an automatic discount in Shopify admin:
- Go to Discounts > Create discount > Amount off products.
- Choose Automatic discount and enter a title such as "Pick any 3, save 15%".
- Choose a Percentage value, such as
15. - Under Applies to, choose Specific collections and select the same collection you set in the bundle builder.
- Under Minimum purchase requirements, choose Minimum quantity of items and enter the same number as Products in a bundle.
- Save.
Note that this discount applies to any qualifying purchase from that collection, not only to items added through the bundle builder. That is how Shopify automatic discounts work.
Then use the Savings note setting to tell shoppers, for example "Save 15% when you pick 3. Applied at checkout." Only mention savings you have set up as an automatic discount in Shopify admin.
Frequently bought together
A box on the product page that offers the product plus related items for a one-click add.
How it works
- Add the Bought together block to the Product information section.
- The theme picks the products:
- If the product has a
transom.fbtmetafield, it uses that list, in your order. See transom.fbt. - Otherwise, it uses Shopify's complementary product suggestions (from the Search and Discovery app).
- If the product has a
- Shoppers see the viewed product and the others, each with a checkbox, and can untick items they do not want.
- Add selected to cart adds every ticked item in one step.
Settings: Heading, Savings note, and Maximum products to show (1 to 3 products beside the one being viewed).
The total shown is the real sum of the prices. If you mention a saving in Savings note, create a matching automatic discount (for example, an "Amount off products" discount with a minimum quantity, applied to those products) first.
Cart goals
A progress bar in the cart that shows how close a shopper is to a reward, such as "Spend $20.00 more for Free shipping".
Settings
Open Theme settings > Cart:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Show cart goals | Turns the bar on or off. |
| Goal 1 amount and Goal 1 reward | First threshold and reward text. |
| Goal 2 amount and Goal 2 reward | Second threshold and reward text. |
| Goal 3 amount and Goal 3 reward | Optional third threshold and reward text. |
How it works
- Amounts are in your store's default currency. For shoppers in another currency, the theme converts the thresholds using the current exchange rate.
- Progress is based on the cart total.
- The bar has one marker per goal. The message shows how much more is needed for the next reward, then "You've unlocked every reward".
- A goal appears only if it has an amount above zero and reward text.
- The bar shows only when the cart has items.
- It appears in the cart drawer or popup and on the cart page.
Set up the matching rewards
The bar does not give the reward. You must create it in Shopify:
- Free shipping: Go to Settings > Shipping and delivery, open a shipping profile, and add a rate that is free when the order price is at or above your amount. Or use Discounts > Create discount > Free shipping, choose Automatic discount, and set the Minimum purchase requirements to the same amount.
- Percent off: Create an Amount off order automatic discount with a minimum purchase amount equal to the goal.
- A free gift: Create a Buy X get Y automatic discount that gives the gift product free once the cart reaches your amount. Make the gift easy to add, for example through the cart upsell collection.
Then test: add products up to each threshold, and check that the reward appears at checkout at that amount.
The preset sample goals (such as "Free shipping" at 75 or 100) are placeholders. Change them to match what you really offer.
Cart upsell
A short list of products in the cart. Shoppers can add them with one click.
Open Theme settings > Cart to set it up:
- Show product recommendations in cart: On or off.
- Product source: Automatic recommendations (suggestions based on the first item in the cart) or Collection (products from a collection you choose, skipping items already in the cart and sold-out ones).
- Heading: The title above the list.
The list shows up to 3 products in the drawer and 4 on the cart page.
Tip: For the best upsell, pick Collection and create a small collection of low-priced add-ons, such as accessories or refills.
Gift wrapping
Create a "Gift wrapping" product with a price, and select it in Theme settings > Cart > Gift wrapping product. The cart shows an "Add gift wrapping for [price]" link. It is a real product, so it is charged and tracked like any other. See Cart.
Countdown
The countdown is a block in the Announcement bar. It counts down to a real date and time.
Rules the theme follows
- You enter an End date and time in the format
YYYY-MM-DD HH:MMin your store's time zone, for example2026-12-01 23:59. You can also enter just a date (2026-12-01), which means midnight at the start of that day. - The timer is hidden if the date is empty, not in the right format, or already past.
- When the time runs out, the whole announcement is removed from the bar.
- The timer never resets. Every visitor sees the same end time.
Using it honestly
Only use a countdown for an offer that really ends on that date. After the date, make sure the offer is truly over, for example by deactivating the automatic discount. Do not set a date that you will keep pushing back.
To add one: open the announcement bar in the header group, Add block > Countdown, then fill in Text, End date and time, and an optional Link. Only one countdown block can be used.
Trust strip
A row of short promises with icons: shipping, returns, secure checkout, support. Place it under the buy box or hero image where shoppers decide.
Add the Trust strip section, then up to four Promise blocks, each with an Icon, Heading, and Text. Only claim what your store actually does: do not write "Free returns" if returns cost money.
Sticky add to cart
A slim bar that follows the shopper on product pages.
It appears at the bottom of the screen after the main Add to cart button has scrolled out of view. It shows the product image, name, current price, and an add button. It uses the same form as the main button, so the selected variant and quantity carry over.
To turn it on or off: open the Product information section and use Show sticky add to cart bar. The setting is per template, so you can turn it off on one template and keep it on others.
Quick add and quick view
On product cards in collections, search results, and the featured collection section:
- Single-variant products have an Add to cart button on the card that adds the product directly.
- Products with options have a Choose options button that opens the product in a window (quick view), so shoppers can pick options without leaving the page. If quick view cannot load, the button simply opens the product page.
Turn this on or off with Show quick add in the section settings (Featured collection, Product grid, and Search results).
Recently viewed and related products
- Recently viewed: Shows the products the visitor looked at on the same device. The list is stored in their browser only. It is hidden until they have viewed a product.
- Related products: Automatic suggestions on product pages from Shopify. They get better as your store collects order data.
Checklist before you launch
- Every discount percent or saving shown in the theme has a matching automatic discount.
- Every cart goal has a matching free shipping rate or discount, tested at the exact threshold.
- Sample tiers in templates are edited or removed.
- Any countdown has a real end date.
- Trust strip promises are true for your store.
- Test checkout once on a phone.
